HER Outdoors Week is back from August 14th – 20th, 2023!

HER Outdoors week aims to celebrate and encourage more girls and women to get out and enjoy the benefits of being in the outdoors.

This week is all about providing more opportunities for ALL women and girls to escape to the outdoors and try something new. For such a tiny island, there are so many incredible outdoor activities on offer and this should be celebrated to the fullest!

Below, we’re sharing the four events that Leave No Trace Ireland is involved with, as well as where you can go to find out about more opportunities in your area. 

Leave No Trace Ireland at HER Outdoors Week

1. Her Outdoors Week Adventure Festival 2023

Where: Russborough House, Co. Wicklow
When: Saturday 12th August

This year sees the first ever HER Outdoors Adventure Festival! Taking place in the amazing Russborough House, this is a full day event packed with incredible adventures for everyone to try.

We are delighted that there will be a Leave No Trace Ireland stand at the festival, where we will be sharing how you can use Leave No Trace Principles to enhance your experience in the outdoors! Only a few tickets left for this amazing event!

2. Slí Ghráinne Mhaol Guided Hike with Leave No Trace and Terra Firma

Where: Achill Island
When: Tuesday 15th August

This free guided hike is a collaboration with Terra Firma and Leave No Trace Ireland. Taking approx. 3hrs, this event will be taking in the stunning surroundings of the Atlantic, following a trail dedicated to Mayo’s most famous seafaring female ”Ghráinne Mhaol” or Grace O’Malley. Along the way we’ll be learning about Leave No Trace skills that we can all take with us to help protect the environment on future adventures.

This event is free, but registration is essential!

3. Stand Up Paddle Boarding with Leave No Trace & Achill OEC

Where: Achill Outdoor Education Centre
When: Friday 18th August

Leave No Trace and Achill Outdoor Education Center are coming together to offer a unique Stand Up Paddle Boarding session.

Achill OEC will lead women on a SUP session while a Leave No Trace trainer creates awareness and understanding of the potential impacts of outdoor activities on the environment and how to minimize those impacts to protect natural and cultural resource.

4. Leave No Trace Awareness Course With Galz Gone Wild

Where: Killiney Hill, Dublin 
When: Sunday 20th August

Leave No Trace is offering a free Certified Leave No Trace Awareness Course with Galz Gone Wild as part of HER OUTDOORS Week.
The Certified Awareness Course is a single day event, sharing now Leave No Trace skills and ethics can help protect our environment and outdoor spaces. This course is run through exploring the natural environment around us in a hands on approach! Finally, to finish the day, there will be an optional sea swim with Galz Gone Wild at the historic Vico Baths.

 

5. Leave No Trace Forest Walk, Sea Swim (Dip) & Campfire

Where: Ards Friary Dublin
When: Saturday 19th August

Donegal Sports Partnership in collaboration with Leave No Trace Ireland have organised a forest walk, swim (Dip) and campfire at Ards Friary on Saturday 19th August from 10am to 12pm for women and girls.

The aim of this event is to provide participants with an opportunity to spend some time in the outdoors, by taking part in a forest walk and swim or a dip in the sea, while hearing about the 7 principles of Leave No Trace as they participate. The session will conclude with a campfire, in which participants will get an opportunity to toast marshmallows.
