Regional Trainer Meet-up and Dark Sky Ireland CPD

Regional Trainer Meet-up and Dark Sky Ireland CPD

When: 11th November 2023, 3.30pm – 9.30pm
Where: North Mayo Heritage Centre at Enniscoe House

Last Saturday night (11th November) 17 Leave No Trace Trainers converged on Mayo to attend the regional trainer meet-up, and participate in a pilot educational CPD from Dark Sky Ireland.

Gavin Beetlestone, our Education Officer, shared updates on our education plans for the year ahead, and then all participants got stuck into the Dark Sky Ireland CPD!

The CPD focused on how to adapt the 7 Principals for outdoor recreation at night, how to recognise the effects of light pollution on our nocturnal environment in addition to a fantastic introduction on how to lead a star-gazing walk.

Artificial light at night, not only effects our ability to view the beauty of the night sky but has adverse effects on our health & wellbeing in addition to devastating affects on our nocturnal wildlife.

By introducing the ROLAN Principles (Responsible Outdoor Lighting At Night) into their future course delivery, our trainers can now bring education and awareness to a much wider audience across the island of Ireland on the importance of protecting our Dark Skies for the benefit of all living things.

Thank you to everyone who attended, you made it a special night!
