Season 1: Knocksink Nature Reserve

Join Colin Stafford Johnson as he presents this podcast mini-series on the Knocksink Wood Nature Reserve, Co. Wicklow, exploring the different roles that Knocksink plays for Irish habitats, as well as how this ecosystem has changed over the years. In this episode, Colin interviews Andrea Webb, a Conservation Ranger with the National Parks and Wildlife Service, discussing her role to protect the woodland, and how visitors can play a part in protecting it too.

Episode 3: 

In the third and final episode in the series, Colin interviews Padraic Creedon, Leave No Trace Ireland’s Education Officer and Ecologist. Padraic discusses the beacon impacts in Knocksink Wood as a result of increased recreational activity, as well as the practical ways in which we can protect Knocksink Wood and enjoy it responsibly.

In this series, we celebrate #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth2023, and explore the power that nature can have to support our mental health and wellbeing.

Episode 1: 

We started our conservations with Cara Byrne from The Hike Psych, who uses Hiking Therapy in her practice, bringing her clients into the hills for their therapy sessions.

Episode 2: 

In this episode, we talk with Sarah Hourigan, founder of Nature Therapy Ireland. With a background in applied psychology and a number of years working health research, Sarah chats with Ellie Berry about of exploring the benefits of the outdoors on our physical and mental wellbeing.

Episode 3: 

Ellie chats to Mark O’Connor, Advanced Leave No Trace Trainer and founder of Field Studies Ireland, about the importance of outdoor education to empower people to connect with nature and reduce eco-anxiety.
