How Are You Celebrating Biodiversity Week?

This week is a pretty special one on Leave No Trace Ireland’s calendar, it’s Biodiversity Week!

Biodiversity Week is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible and intricate variety of life found on Earth, from its plants and animals to its fungi and micro-organisms, as well as the communities and habitats that they form and live in. It is the basis of human existence and it is all interconnected!

The 7 Principles of Leave No Trace play a fundamental role in protecting Ireland’s rich biodiversity by teaching individuals how to reduce one’s impact when recreating outdoors. This week, we ask you to step outside and take a closer look at nature and take a moment to appreciate and celebrate it. Whether you live in the city or the countryside, there’s life to be found!

If you’re looking for some inspiration on what to do to celebrate Biodiversity Week, here are some ideas for both kids and grown-ups:

  1. Conduct a backyard Bioblitz
  2. Enjoy a Biodiversity Scavenger Hunt
  3. Sign up to one (or more!) of Biodiversity Week’s events. (See full calendar of events here)
  4. Download and print off the Biodiversity Data Centre’s insect identification posters to discover the variety of species in your garden (We have butterflies, bumblebees and shieldbug identification posters ready for download on our website)

Get in touch with us on social media and let us know how you celebrated this all important week!
