A passionate environmental advocate, Maura has led by example—most notably completing a 5.6km open water swim from Roonagh Pier to Clare Island, raising over €5,000 for Westport Autism Friendly Town while inspiring her local community. Her adventurous spirit extends beyond Ireland, with expeditions including hiking in the Himalayas and sailing across the Atlantic.
As the first team member of Leave No Trace Ireland, Maura has transformed the organization into a national leader in outdoor conservation, securing €1 million in funding, expanding the team to 18, and launching impactful initiatives like the ‘Love This Place’ campaign, which now reaches nearly 5.9 million people annually. Her leadership in the charity sector was recognized with a National Charity Impact Award and a National Good Governance Award in 2023.
Maura’s vision has not only advanced conservation efforts but also enhanced outdoor recreation opportunities, including the development of Blueway trails. She is committed to inspiring people of all ages and abilities to embrace the outdoors and experience the transformative power of nature.
From leading expeditions to driving impactful conservation strategies, Maura continues to inspire others to connect with, protect, and enjoy Ireland’s natural landscapes.
