The core learning objectives are: o To create an awareness of Leave No Trace and why it is important to young people o Improved awareness, connection and concern for the natural environment o Increased understanding of personal impact and choices in relation to the natural environment and connection with Climate Change. o Understand key concepts relating to ethical behaviour in the outdoors o Examine and discuss current environmental issues and challenges. o Create and develop a personal connection between participants and nature o Create awareness and learn about wildlife, flora and fauna and the importance of protecting their local biodiversity.

This project, the ‘Leave No Trace Climate Action Champions’, will focus on the theme of Climate Action in the primary school setting. As with all ‘Leave No Trace’ programmes through experiential learning our experienced Educators will help to raise and strengthen social and behavioural environmental consciousness amongst school children. They will achieve this through a blend of classroom-based and outdoor workshops, getting children actively thinking and involved in the programme.

The Champion programme has been designed and created in partnership with An Taisce. It is specifically aimed at 4th through to 6th year classes in primary schools to provide a fun and engaging environment for children to learn about Ireland’s natural environment, the importance of biodiversity, impact of Climate Change and positive actions they can take. The course has been designed to complement both the primary school curriculum for the Republic of Ireland, and the An Taisce Green Schools programme.
