One of the greatest tools we can use in protecting our favourite outdoor spaces is understanding more about them. Citizen science has become a fantastic way for people of all ages and backgrounds to better understand and protect the places they love.

Join Leave No Trace Ireland, National Parks and Wildlife Service, and PURE Project in a day of discovery at Knocksink Wood Nature Reserve. Using selected sites of ecological importance scattered throughout the reserve, we will identify as many species present as possible and feed the results into the National Biodiversity Data Centre’s Database. This information can then be used in future decisions about the protection, development, and management of Knocksink Wood Nature Reserve.

Once you have registered interest, Leave No Trace Ireland will be in contact about the activities and time slots for the day.

There will be some walking and moderately strenuous activities planned, but everyone is welcome to engage at the level they are comfortable with. We are also happy to chat with anyone who wants to learn more about Knocksink and why it’s so special.

Due to potential restrictions on gatherings and the fact that we do not wish to cause any overcrowding on-site, please note that there is a possibility that not all who register will be offered a chance to attend. The day itself may have to be postponed due to weather / Covid or other circumstances outside our control. Any changes will be communicated as soon as possible.
