The National Biodiversity Conference 2022

The National Biodiversity Conference 2022

With a Climate and Biodiversity Emergency declared in the Dáil in 2019, we are losing global biodiversity at a rate unprecedented in human history.

The National Biodiversity Conference (June 8th – 9th 2022) is an initiative of the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage and the National Parks & Wildlife Service, facilitated by Natural Capital Ireland.

This conference will bring together stakeholders from the public, private, NGO and academic sectors in order to share experiences in protecting, conserving and restoring biodiversity and offer insights to inform the next National Biodiversity Action Plan, due to open for public consultation later this year.

Plenary speakers include Malcolm Noonan TD, Minister of State for Heritage and Electoral Reform, Senator Pippa Hackett, Minister of State with Responsibility for Biodiversity & Land Use at the Department of Agriculture and Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, with more to be announced.

The conference will be held in Dublin Castle and streamed live online over two days on June 8th & 9th (in accordance with the latest Covid-19 guidelines).
