Beach Cleaning Event: The Big Weigh In 2022

The Big Weigh In 2022

‘The Big Weigh In’ is coming up, and we at Leave No Trace want to highlight this event as an amazing way for us all to get stuck in and take care of our Marine environment!

The Big Weigh In  is an annual environmental clean-up event run by the marine environmental charity Flossie and the Beach Cleaners, taking place on Sunday 31st July 2pm – 4pm

This is a single day event, with the goal of collectively removing as much pollution from our rivers, canals, lakes and beaches as possible during the set time. Afterwards, we all weigh how much pollution we cleaned up together, and see the power in our collective action!

Currently, Flossie and the Beach Cleaners are searching for volunteers to join the event all around the country. Last year the Big Weigh In collected 3456kg by over 400 volunteers.

About

Flossie and the Beach Cleaners is a registered marine environmental charity,  and an ever-growing group of marine enthusiasts. They’re working towards saving our seas and sea creatures from the ravages of plastic pollution. Through regular fun beach cleaning, junior and senior school workshops and clean-up events their aim is to do what we can to make a real difference whilst educating children in a fun stress-free way. This is their future and we believe that with positivity and focused action, our oceans and sea life can continue to flourish.

Flossie Donnelly is passionate about fighting plastic pollution, and loves marine life. At the age of 12 she travelled to Indonesia to visit one of the worlds most polluted rivers, learning how large and complicated the plastic problem we face is. Now 15, Flossie Donnelly is fully involved with the charity when she is not at school, with the aim of creating a space for people to learn about pollution and marine life in a positive and fun environment.
