Leave No Trace Ireland together with Sport Northern Ireland have launched a ‘Leave No Trace Recommendations for Responsible Outdoor Recreation’ poster. The poster will be distributed throughout Northern Ireland through outdoor retailers and will act as a guide for the public and those new to the outdoors to help them plan their own adventure.
This project aims to raise awareness of responsible outdoor recreation practices across Northern Ireland’s blueways, greenways, trails and all shared outdoor spaces, thus ensuring a healthier and sustainable future for all.
The poster provides an easy checklist to responsible outdoor recreation through five key points, based on 7 Principles of Leave No Trace.
Maura Kiely, CEO of Leave No Trace Ireland says, “We are delighted to launch this poster with Sport Northern Ireland. It’s an important piece to raise awareness of responsible outdoor recreation practices across Northern Ireland and a call for the public to respect and protect Northern Ireland’s wild spaces, especially now when we’ve never needed nature more.”
Sport Northern Ireland’s CEO, Antoinette McKeown stated “It is great to see so many people participating in sport and physical recreation, whether in the hills or on the sea, during this Covid crisis, in line with the regulations. Sport NI has been a supporter of Leave No Trace Ireland since its inception and believes strongly in the responsible and sustainable sporting use of our outdoor spaces and natural areas. We all need to work together to protect our environment so that it can be enjoyed for generations to come and this poster will encourage outdoor sports participants to think about how to enjoy the outdoors responsibly.”
