Cormac McCarthy is an Environment & Heritage Officer with Waterways Ireland since 2004.

His role includes implementation of the organisation’s Heritage Plan, using a collaborative partnership approach.  He is committed to animating and supporting non-profits to realise biodiversity and heritage based projects.  He also provides specialist advice to units within Waterways Ireland to ensure projects comply with EU and National legislation and are grounded in the protection and sustainable use of our inland waterways.

Cormac’s background is environmental science, though he also has extensive voluntary experience in the community sector. Before starting with Waterways Ireland, he worked with Inland Fisheries Ireland to monitor water catchments and investigate environmental incidents. Cormac is committed to stakeholder engagement and developing sustainable initiatives and projects that allow appreciation of heritage, whilst protecting it for this and future generations to enjoy.
