New Online Course on Care and Protection of the Outdoor Places we Love Launched by Kilkenny Leader Partnership and Leave No Trace Ireland

LEAVE NO TRACE IRELAND AND KILKENNY LEADER PARTNERSHIP DEVELOP NOVEL ONLINE COURSE ON CARE AND PROTECTION OF THE OUTDOOR PLACES WE LOVE

21st March 2022: Leave No Trace Ireland (LNT) in collaboration with Kilkenny LEADER Partnership (KLP) have for the first time developed an online Leave No Trace educational programme available to the general public.

This online course (https://www.leavenotraceireland.org/introduction-to-leave-no-trace-online-course/) is designed to raise awareness and give a better understanding of recreation related impacts, the Seven Principles of Leave No Trace, and how Leave No Trace skills and ethics can help protect the outdoor places we love.

The course is self-directed, takes approx. 40 mins and is suitable for anyone who enjoys being outdoors and would like to learn more about how to Leave No Trace.

Speaking on the launch of the new online course, Leave No Trace CEO, Maura Kiely, said that following the impact of Covid-19 on providing face-to-face tailored educational programmes for schools, communities and businesses, Leave No Trace Ireland see it as imperative that some of its services and education resources are available online.

With the surge in people using the outdoors resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, often to the same well-known places, overcrowding, parking issues and increased littering are prevalent. This demonstrates the need for increased awareness of the cumulative impacts’ visitors can have on locations and the need for awareness of respectful behaviour in the outdoors. These areas are integral to health and well-being, and as such need to be protected.”

Welcoming the partnership with Leave No Trace Ireland on this novel initiative Harry Everard, Rural Recreation Officer, Kilkenny LEADER Partnership said :

“Leave No Trace continue their campaign of promoting rural recreation in a safe, sustainable and responsible fashion. Trail Kilkenny and Kilkenny LEADER Partnership have had the pleasure of supporting them in the development of this project – a project that endorses and champions the need to care for the countryside for everyone.”
