We are thrilled to announce that our Hot Spot Project in the Midlands, a partnership with Deloitte and Bord na Móna, has been shortlisted for the Green Collaboration Award at the Green Awards 2025. This category celebrates partnerships that demonstrate how collaboration can amplify impact, combining diverse expertise and resources to address environmental challenges effectively.
In 2024, we launched this transformative initiative at Kilaranny Bog, near Lough Boora Discovery Park in County Offaly. The project, unfolding in multiple phases, focuses on education, programmed peatland rehabilitation, and ongoing monitoring of environmental impacts.
Key project highlights include:
- 137 Deloitte volunteers participating in hands-on restoration efforts.
- Planting 12,000 sphagnum moss plugs over four days to aid in peatland regeneration.
- Engaging workshops on Leave No Trace Principles, ecologist-led walking tours, and interactive biodiversity activities.
The Hot Spot Programme is central to Leave No Trace Ireland’s mission, identifying areas impacted by human activity and working with communities, landowners, and stakeholders to develop tailored solutions that align with environmental objectives.
We are looking forward to the awards ceremony in February.
