Leave No Trace launch new Biodiversity Training Programme

Leave No Trace Ireland are delighted to announce the launch of a new Biodiversity Training Programme for Tidy Towns Community Groups in County Mayo. The programme is being funded by Mayo Local Action Group through their Rural Development Programme (LEADER).

Leave No Trace Ireland is an environmental non-profit based in County Mayo. They specialise in outdoor ethics education programmes designed to promote and inspire responsible outdoor recreation through education, research and partnerships. The new biodiversity training programme is being delivered in partnership with South West Mayo Development Group CGL (SWMDC) and ecologists from Giorria Environmental Services. The programme aims to provide a pilot training programme that will deliver custom training workshops and resources to Tidy Towns Community Groups in County Mayo. The workshops will raise awareness of local biodiversity and how this is linked to the Leave No Trace ethos and outdoor recreation.

Maura Lyons, Manager of Leave No Trace Ireland said: “We are delighted to be part of this new LEADER Project which will support Tidy Towns groups in Mayo with an innovative bespoke biodiversity programme in their community. Many Tidy Towns groups across Ireland have been requesting this bespoke service and we are delighted to be able to facilitate this new biodiversity programme.”

Karina Dingerkus, Ecologist, Giorria Environmental Services said: “This is a great opportunity for local community groups to learn more about their local biodiversity and how they can protect it.”

“SWMDC has been promoting the funding available for rural environment projects for some time. This pilot programme fits perfectly with the objectives of that fund”, said Sabina Trench, LEADER Programme Coordinator.
