We are honoured to announce that Leave No Trace Ireland has received national recognition for the impact of its work as winners of the Charity Impact Awards 2021 for medium organisations from The Wheel!
The Charity Impact Awards, hosted by The Wheel, celebrate the work of charities, community groups and voluntary organisations that have changed Ireland for the better.
The past two years has shown Ireland the irreplaceable role that charities, social enterprises, community and voluntary groups play in society, providing a vast range of services, supports, and opportunities to our communities. For many, these organisation have been a lifeline during the COVID-19 crisis.
The COVID-19 pandemic had a profound impact on which sports Irish people take part in, with individual sports and activities such as walking, running and cycling experiencing unprecedented growth. One recent report from Sport Ireland saw participation in outdoor recreation and sport double during the pandemic. This increase in outdoor recreation has led to a dramatic increase in litter and water pollution, as well as disturbance to vegetation, wildlife, livestock and other people.
Leave No Trace Ireland is Ireland’s only outdoor ethics programme, which promotes the responsible use of the outdoors. Through education, Leave No Trace Ireland enables everyone to learn how to reduce their impacts, providing guidelines and best practice examples, along with hands-on, interactive learning. We work to foster a new generation of informed consumers, workers, policy and decision-makers, so that we will all become dedicated to protecting the amazing natural resources found in Ireland’s countryside and outdoors.
