2019 Annual Report Leave No Trace Ireland

A silver lining in this global pandemic has been the growth in appreciation of the outdoors. Amid the current COVID 19 pandemic, more and more people have turned to outdoor recreation as a means of sustaining their physical and mental wellbeing. Unfortunately, this growth in participation has led to an increase in irresponsible behaviour which has caused an increase in negative impacts on the environment. Leave No Trace Ireland and its network of over 250 members, have been hard at work adapting to this unprecedented surge in recreational behaviour change and have published guidelines and engaged in public awareness campaigns to address this.

Leave No Trace Irelands practical, research-based and communicative approach to the development of sustainable outdoor recreation has seen remarkable growth in popularity in recent years.  Our organisation is committed to protecting the land and water resources across the island of Ireland, building and protecting our existing recreational resources. In 2019 we experienced our biggest year to date with a growth of over 36%.  We achieved significant milestones in 2019 including the development of a new website, the opening of a new office and nominations for several national awards for good governance. In addition to significant growth, Leave No Trace Ireland achieved full compliance with the Charities’ Governance Code and the Charities’ Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP).
