Leave No Trace Ireland Awarded 2022 Heritage Council Funding
13th July 2022 : Leave No Trace Ireland are pleased to receive the Heritage Council Capacity Funding for 2022, and to welcome the Heritage Council as Core Members of the organisation.
The Heritage Council funding will support Leave No Trace’s capacity to empower environmental stewardship and responsible recreation across the island of Ireland in the promotion of its shared outdoor heritage through education, training, and environmental advocacy.
The Capacity Fund will help to support the delivery of Leave No Trace Ireland’s Strategic Plan 2021-2024. This will enable the organisation to recruit a dedicated Education Officer, who will design and develop educational resources for the Leave No Trace Ireland national Training Network and Member Programme, as well as primary schools across Ireland. The resources will include educational leaflets, videos and checklists which can be accessed from the website.
The fund will also be used to support the Love This Place public awareness campaign. In its third consecutive year, the campaign is running during the summer months of 2022, and asks the public to Love This Place and Leave No Trace when enjoying the outdoors this summer. The campaign covers issues such as littering, how to minimise the effects of fire, dog fouling and livestock worrying, as well as habitat specific impacts. The 2022 campaign is a joint initiative with Government departments and leading state and independent organisations that promote outdoor activities and the responsible enjoyment of the countryside.
Welcoming the Heritage Council funding, Maura Kiely, CEO of Leave No Trace Ireland said: “We’re delighted to receive Capacity Funding from the Heritage Council. This will enable the organisation to grow our resources and to spread the Leave No Trace message, at a time when the demand for protection of our outdoor spaces and environmental stewardship has never been higher. This funding has arrived at a crucial time for Leave No Trace Ireland and allows us to continue to achieve our Strategic Goals.”
