Event Highlights:
Leave No Trace Workshops
Location: Waterford Library
Date: Saturday, 21st September
Time: 10.30am-12pm
The Leave No Trace Ireland workshop is an engaging, hands-on session aimed at educating participants on the principles of responsible outdoor ethics.
During the workshop, you will learn about the seven Leave No Trace principles with Waterford City and County Council’s Environment Department, focusing on practical techniques to minimise your environmental impact while enjoying nature.
The workshop includes discussions, demonstrations, and activities that cover topics like proper waste disposal, respecting wildlife, and sustainable camping practices. The workshop equips participants with the knowledge and skills to promote environmental stewardship and preserve Ireland’s natural landscapes.
Location: Meath Library
Date: 20th – 29th September TBC
During SDG Week, Meath Library will host a special display dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals. The display aims to educate visitors on the importance of each goal and highlight the actions we can take individually and collectively to achieve these global objectives. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore resources on sustainability, environmental protection, and community involvement, encouraging a deeper understanding of how our daily choices impact the planet.
CSR Day with Gas Networks Ireland – Tree Planting Day
Location: Harpers Island, County Cork
Date: 24th September
Time: 10:00-1pm
As part of Leave No Trace’s commitment to SDG 15: Life on Land, we are collaborating with Gas Networks Ireland for a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Day focused on tree planting. This event will take place on the 24th of September, bringing together volunteers to plant trees and restore natural habitats.
A group of approximately 30 volunteers are scheduled to visit Harpers Island wetlands from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on that day. The local community association has identified three tasks for the group: clearing overgrowth in a designated orchard area, trimming briars encroaching on walkways, and surveying oak trees in the wetlands to assess their overall numbers. The plan also includes a Leave No Trace facilitation session to raise awareness about the importance of areas like Harpers Island and the value of following Leave No Trace principles when visiting outdoor spaces.
Tree planting is a powerful way to combat climate change, enhance biodiversity, and contribute to the restoration of Ireland’s natural landscapes. The event embodies the spirit of SDG 13: Climate Action, demonstrating how corporate and community partnerships can drive positive environmental change.
