Introducing our New Croagh Patrick Ambassadors: Ciarán Horkan
Leave No Trace Ireland has welcomed 12 new Croagh Patrick Ambassadors, who have been trained to advocate for the preservation of the iconic mountain which sees 120,000 visitors annually.
This dedicated team of volunteers assist the public in appreciating the mountain and it’s surroundings through education. They also drive public awareness of the importance of caring and respecting the natural heritage, so that visitors can continue to enjoy and protect Croagh Patrick.
Ciarán Horkan
One of the newest recruits is Castlebar native Ciarán Horkan who is training to be a coastal tour guide in Achill.
He has been climbing the Reek annually since he was eight years old – a family tradition, when everyone would get together to climb to the summit!
Passionate about the outdoors, Ciarán’s interests span ecology, navigation, wilderness, and challenges. He is thrilled to be part of this Ambassador program and hopes to play a role in helping balance our relationship with nature.
