Go Green project concludes with final conference in Portugal

Empowering Political Decision-Makers and Technicians in Municipalities

The GoGreen project celebrated its final conference in Portugal,  marking the successful conclusion of a three-year initiative.

This project brought together six partner organisations from five countries, working collaboratively to empower local communities in developing
green projects aligned with the EU Green Deal. The two-day conference featured a comprehensive program.

The first day focused on presenting and discussing the project’s results, round table discussions were had onsubjects such as “Shaping the European Green Deal through Institutional Collaboration” and “Municipalities at the Forefront of European Sustainability”. A case study on “Shaping Inclusive and Sustainable Cities” was also carried out . While the second day included, visits
to local projects and initiatives that showcased environmental best practices.

Since the beginning of the project, training courses on key topics in local environmental management, including water, waste, land-use planning, biodiversity protection, and communication and social mobilisation have been carried out, both here in Ireland with
Leave No Trace and in the other partner countries.

At its heart, Go Green aims to equip local communities, decision-makers, and public officials with the tools and knowledge required to drive meaningful environmental change. By offering a combination of training courses, funding opportunities, and support networks, the initiative
will foster innovative solutions to tackle pressing environmental challenges.

To ensure its legacy, GoGreen will publish key resources, including a policy paper and a layman’s report, both of which draw on the wealth of knowledge gained during the initiative.
The Go Green project has shown that local actions can have a global impact.

It is hoped that its publications and outcomes will empower communities, decision-makers, and public
figures to advance environmental sustainability for years to come.
