Community Foundation Ireland comes to Westport

We were thrilled to welcome Denise Charlton and the team from Community Foundation Ireland to Westport recently. Their funding has been transformative for Leave No Trace Ireland and Dark Sky Ireland, allowing us to expand our reach and impact. Thanks to their support, we have been able to create new video content that showcases the positive environmental work we’re doing. To find our more click here

Community Foundation Ireland is known for spotlighting organizations that they match with philanthropic donors throughout the year, and both Dark Sky Ireland and Leave No Trace Ireland have benefited from these connections. During the visit, we spent an action-packed day filming projects that highlight the important work being done. These included interviews with Leave No Trace’s Maura Kiely and Rachel Shawe at the Quays in Westport, followed by the filming of three Croagh Patrick Ambassadors on the mountain.

Finally the day concluded with a visit to the Mayo Dark Sky Park for a #culturenight event and to meet the Directors of Dark Sky Ireland and their co-hosting partners for ALAN2025, The Friends of Mayo Dark Skies.  (To learn more about ALAN 2025 in Westport click here. Community Foundation Ireland were also treated to a star-gazing lesson from the amazing representatives from Armagh Observatory & Planetarium.

Sustainable Futures

Engaging philanthropists on the issues of climate and biodiversity is one of our thematic areas under Sustainable futures. This is a key pillar of Community Foundation Ireland and its mission ‘Equality for All in Thriving Communities’

To support awareness raising, fund raising and to bring the initiative to a wider digital audience, the Foundation is highlighting projects that are making a difference in this area and spotlighting their work.

These videos are being produced to highlight both impact to date and to identify what motivates those who support the Climate and environment sector and how everyone can get involved. The key objective is to make donors, potential donors and policy makers, take action in the area of climate and biodiversity.

Simply put, it is to increase climate philanthropy. Main Message Climate Philanthropy has an ability to bring together communities, donors, business, advocates, experts, and researchers as well as policymakers to drive big change. It has the power to ensure Sustainable Futures for our communities, our country, and our planet.

Philanthropy also allows pioneering, ground-breaking work which otherwise would not happen. Community Foundation Ireland are the leaders in this space of introducing philanthropy to areas that otherwise would not secure funding or would not be able to have long-term funding.
