Members of Ballyvaugan / Fanore walking club braved the weather on Saturday to attend their Leave No Trace Certified Awareness Course. Participants learned about the skills and ethics of Leave No Trace Ireland. They learned how the 7 principles, e.g plan ahead and prepare are easy to apply when they are out walking.
Plan Ahead and Prepare: It’s important to know the restrictions of the area that you will be hiking in. Perhaps dogs aren’t allowed on particular sections, or some landowners may not like people walking across their land. Try splitting into smaller groups of hikers where possible and always know how to use a map and compass in order to avoid having to physically mark your surroundings.
Adhering to the 7 principles can help everyone protect the environment. If your group are interested in hosting a course, please get in touch with our Training Administrator firstname.lastname@example.org
