Aviva partners with Leave No Trace Ireland to Promote Responsible Outdoor Practices

Dublin, October 2024

Leave No Trace Ireland is pleased to announce its new partnership with Aviva Ireland, which has joined as a Corporate Gold Member to support the promotion of responsible and ethical use of outdoor and recreational spaces across Ireland. This collaboration highlights Aviva’s commitment to climate action and responsible business practices, aligning with Leave No Trace Ireland’s mission to protect and preserve Ireland’s natural landscapes.

As a Corporate Gold Member, Aviva Ireland joins a community of organisations dedicated to sustainability and environmental protection. The partnership will see Aviva Ireland actively participate in various initiatives, including educational programmes, service projects, and conservation efforts, aimed at promoting a sense of stewardship and fostering a deeper understanding of responsible outdoor behaviours.

Commenting on the partnership, Maura Kiely, CEO of Leave No Trace Ireland, stated: “We are thrilled to partner with Aviva Ireland to bring the Leave No Trace message to schools and communities across Dublin, Galway, and Cork. By engaging young people and Aviva employees in hands-on activities that promote responsible outdoor practices, we are fostering a deeper understanding of environmental stewardship. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to protecting Ireland’s natural spaces and ensuring they can be enjoyed responsibly by future generations.”

One of the key initiatives of this partnership is a series of educational workshops delivered to 20 schools across Dublin, Galway, and Cork. These workshops aim to inspire young people to connect with nature responsibly and understand the importance of sustainable outdoor practices.

Additionally, Aviva Ireland employees will participate in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Days, where they will be brought to volunteer in outdoor locations affected by recreational activity. During these ESG Days, Aviva staff will engage in hands-on activities to restore and enhance these sites, learning about the Leave No Trace ethos while making a positive impact on the environment.

Brian O’Neill, Head of Communications, Sustainability and Sponsorship at Aviva Ireland added:Sustainability is of strategic importance to us as a business, from purchasing renewable electricity for our offices in Ireland since 2011 to parting with environmental charities like Leave No Trace. Climate change is a systemic risk impacting society, businesses, our business and our customers. No single company can tackle climate change alone which is why we are working in partnership with others. Partnering with Leave No Trace and funding nature related educational workshops is one of the many ways that we aim to positively impact communities.”

Through these combined efforts, Leave No Trace Ireland and Aviva Ireland are helping to fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and ensuring Ireland’s natural spaces are preserved and enjoyed responsibly by all.
