Register Now for the Big Beach Clean

It's that time of the year again, the Big Beach Clean weekend is just around the corner! Clean Coasts’ Big Beach Clean is taking place on the weekend of the 15th, 16th & 17th of September all over Ireland.

Clean Coasts is once again teaming up with the Ocean Conservancy for the International Coastal Cleanup event. Last year, 789,138 volunteers in more than 100 countries collected nearly 20.5 million pounds (or 9.3 million kilograms) of marine litter during last year’s International Coastal Cleanup event. As in previous years, cigarette butts—which contain plastic filters—topped the list at approximately 2.4 million collected; with food wrappers (1.7 million), plastic beverage bottles (1.6 million), plastic bottle caps (1.1 million), and plastic grocery bags (757,523) rounding out the top five.

Why not join a Big Beach Clean?
Don't have time to organise your own beach clean? Not to worry, you can join one beach cleans already registered with more being registered everyday. Just get in touch with the Clean Coasts office and we will pass on your details to the group you would like to join.

Don't forget about the data collection!
An important part of the Big Beach Clean is collecting data through a survey about the types of litter we are finding on Irish beaches so that we can tackle big issues like sewage related litter with new initiatives such as the Think Before You Flush campaign. So please don't forget to send us your data cards (which are included in your packs or downloadable here) or download the fantastic new Ocean Conservancy Clean Swell App and submit your data as you do your beach clean.
