GMIT Outdoor Education Students complete 2 day Leave No Trace Ireland Trainer Course

Last weekend 10 students from the BA in Outdoor Education in GMIT, Castlebar, Co Mayo took part in the 2 day Leave No Trace Trainer Course. This course led by lecturer and Leave No Trace Advanced Trainer Pauline Jordan included an overnight camping expedition. The participants were lucky to experience clear skies and were treated to a sparkling stargazing session with Leave No Trace Trainer from Mayo Dark Skies Georgia Mc Millian.

This course is designed to enhance participants understanding of Leave No Trace Ireland practices and ethics and to increase their level of expertise and confidence in teaching Leave No Trace skills. Through focused activities, hands-on field experience, and both formal and informal discussions, they were introduced to concepts and methods that advanced their knowledge of Leave No Trace Ireland issues, expanded their repertoire of low-impact skills and increased their effectiveness in teaching these important skills to others.  This was a relaxed programme where all participants had a part in demonstrating the choices that can be made to minimise our impact on the land and our resources.
