Research is the systematic investigation and study of materials and sources to establish facts and reach new conclusions. Research is important to Leave No Trace Ireland, as it supports decision making by providing what evidence there is or is not, about the effect that our outdoor recreational activities could have on the environment.
Research is also important because it gives direction in dealing with specific problems when promoting the responsible use of the outdoors.
Research helps Leave No Trace to:
- Monitor the effectiveness of the Leave No trace message in Ireland.
- Appreciate what is already known and what new data is required.
- Compare existing research with new research if needed.
- Produce the most effective messages on the responsible and sustainable use of the outdoors, thereby preserving our natural and cultural heritage.
