What is Leave No Trace?

Leave No Trace Ireland was officially launched in Ireland in September 2006, it is an outdoor ethics educational programme designed to encourage and promote people to make better decisions when using the outdoors in order to minimise their impact on the environment, from doing things like picking up your litter, keeping your dog under control to preventing the creation of new trails.

It differs from other codes and outdoor messages by promoting the concept of a “land ethic” - what you do when no one is looking as opposed to adhering to rules and regulations. It encourages an ethos of respect for the land, wildlife, other users and land owners/managers.
